Coffee has been around for a very long time. According to legend, coffee was discovered by an Arab goat herder by the name of Kaidi, who noticed that his goats became frisky and ran around the fields after chewing on the berries from certain wild bushes. The word coffee has its origins in an old Arabic word "Qahwah" meaning wine. In fact, the first beverage made from the coffee tree was a wine comprised of coffee cherries, honey and water. More of coffee's rich history has been captured on each Bengal Traders cup. Here is a sampling of one of these stories from the Bengal Traders archives: The first coffee shop on record, Kiva Han, opened in Constantinople in 1475. By Turkish law, it was then considered legal for a woman to divorce her husband if he did not provide her with her daily ration of coffee-thus giving new meaning to the term "grounds for divorce." Today 49% of the United States population drinks coffee regularly and the average coffee drinker consumes 3-4 cups a day. Man and women track almost equally when it comes to coffee consumption - 49% of men and 50% of women indicate they are "likely to drink it."-Source: 1996 Winter Coffee Study - National Coffee Association
